Jungels Shorthorn Farm began with the purchase of a Registered Shorthorn heifer in 1953 from the famous Hammer Shorthorn Herd of Hannaford, ND.
By 1970, our herd grew to an exceptional base of 50 purebred females. In 1974, we purchased the EM DEE herd from Melvin Dronen of Finley, ND. Along with the cows, we purchased the farmstead and pasture land as well. Our Shorthorn Pride is clearly shown through our line of females whose origins date back to 1929. The DEE prefixed cattle in our herd all carry some influence back to the original EM DEE cows. In 1999, we decided to register all future cattle with the JSF (Jungels Shorthorn Farm), since it was at this time that Derek returned to the family operation and also in an effort to help expand our purebred cattle marketing efforts. Today we calve 150 registered & commercial Shorthorn cows. These females carry very little of what are considered to be the "popular" genetics of today. They are raised in a ranch setting, wean heavy calves, flesh easy, and breed back. We have been fortunate to market a large number of cattle throughout the midwest where they have enjoyed a great deal of success for their new owners. Whether it be your next herd bull, replacement female, or show calf, we can meet your needs with cattle that have practicality built in. |
